What kind of organization?
The Japan Federation of Conciliation Associations (Nippon Choutei Kyoukai Rengoukai) is an organization managed by regional Conciliation Associations, which conciliators for district courts, family courts, and summary courts nationwide belong to. It was established on April 8, 1952 as a private organization and became a juridical foundation on June 15, 1955.  Its office is in the Supreme Court (4-2 Hayabusa-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).
What kind of people are conciliators?
Conciliators are appointed by the Supreme Court from people with a great deal of knowledge and experience in social life, or other expertise so that the common sense of the general public could be reflected in conciliation. Specifically, they are specialists such as lawyers, doctors, professors, certified public accountants, real estate appraisers, architects, and people who have been extensively active in society, such as volunteer probation officers, counselors, and advisory specialists for consumers’ affairs.
